Santa Fe

photo above shows the A Yard tower on the east side of the Mt. Vernon
Bridge. Just above the roof of the tower is Santa Fe 4-8-4 No. 3751 on
static display.

shows the transfer crane. The gray building to the right is the A Yard
Office. Behind the crane is a Jordan
spreader.

photo above, SP 4-10-2 No. 5021 is visible
in front of the oil tanks on the north side of
the A Yard. The locomotive is now on display at the Los Angeles County
Fairgrounds in Pomona.

The sequence of four photos, below, show an eastbound Streamliner, probably the City of St. Louis, arriving San Bernardino in December 1963. A trainman stands at attention at a chair car vestibule while mail and express are loaded at the head end. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Four photos, December 1963. The photo
below shows the eastbound, all sleeping car section of the City of Los
Angeles-City of St. Louis coming into San Bernardino off the
"short way" behind four E-units. The green flags indicate the
Challenger coach section is following.
There was a nationwide airline strike between July 8 and August
19, 1966. For a little over a month it was like old times for U.S.
passenger trains.
